Bridal Bliss

I recently completed a very special order.  I made a wedding dress and the bridal party dresses for Irene Kelleher. It was a special order as I have worked with Irene many times before on costume designs for various roles, Irene is a wonderful actress who has worn my designs on stage and screen.

Playboy of the Western World 12So to be asked to make the most important dress of her life was such an honour.

Here are a few pictures to show the process and the design journey.

Bridesmaid Dresses

insta 4

Less then two months to my wedding and we are almost there with all the details.  I haven’t been able to share anything new recently on my sites as I have been spending so much time on regular orders and my own wedding dress, which i can’t share yet obviously so it seems quiet on my side but I promise I’m not sitting about doing nothing here.  I am half way through my dress and I except to be finished it next week, fingers crossed.  I will then be able to move onto the bridesmaid dresses.

I just received the fabric for those the other day, and I love it!  I got it printed in the US and it took me such a long time to choose a print!  The most difficult thing about making these things has been the fact that I have so much choice, as I can make anything I want, it makes it so difficult to narrow it down to one idea, to one print, to one design! I finally just had to commit to something, as with the wedding dress design, and just go for it as I could have spent forever deciding on something.

I have five bridesmaids, who are all only gorgeous and super easy to work with so designing and making for them is going to be a breeze! I can share a sneak peek of the fabric, if you care to see it of course! It’s a grey blue colour, featuring a large tree and bird print.  I was worried about how the print may turn out but I am so happy with the results and the colour is exactly what I was looking for.  I can’t wait to create something super cute and stylish for my gorgeous girls!

So yes, I still have to finish my wedding dress and make five bridesmaid dresses and no, I am not stressed out yet! So no melt downs, but give me another month and ill answer that again!

Costume Design Shoot

I did a really great shoot with a super photo shoot team a few months ago and I have the images to share with you today.  Along with stylist, Natasha Crowley and photographer, Simon Curran, together we decided on a dark fantasy theme for this shoot, we didn’t what to do a trend based fashion shoot, so I decided to make costumes specially for the shoot.  I have said before in past posts that I absolutely love making costumes more than anything else so getting to make these for the shoot was exciting and very rewarding to see the final results.  Keeping the background dark and simple, we let the team’s skills do the talking.  I have worked with this team before on a shoot last year, so I knew it was going to be a great, easy going day full of creativity and great ideas!

I had three costumes feature in the shoot, going from a soft and simple look, to a more textured and daring look and ending in a heavy, layered commanding outfit.  We wanted to show a progression of the character throughout the shoot, from simple beginnings to a full transformation into the queen of this fantastical place the shoot portrays.

Wedding Invitations!

DIY Wedding Invites

We sent our wedding invites at the beginning of this year, we wanted something that we made ourselves, simple and cute was the aim of the game.  I really liked the idea of making a little booklet. It consists of four pages, a title page, an illustration of myself and Gary, the Invite page and then just a few further details about the wedding on the fourth page.  I designed and illustrated it myself, drawing versions of myself and Gary. I got them printed online and then just sewed the centre folds of the cards together on the sewing machine with a red thread, letting the thread fall from each end giving it a DIY touch.  I did save quite a bit by doing it myself and getting it printed online, so it does come in handy being crafty!

We had sent our “Save the Dates” last year. As it’s a wedding abroad, we wanted to give people plenty of notice so they could plan for it, we went with something more humorous and fun for this, not wanting to spend too much, because as we have found out, even if you send people save the dates, you will find that many people will contact you after anyway to remind them of the date and where again, which is totally fine as we definitely didn’t break the bank for them and just wanted something that would tell people to start thinking about planning and we did enjoy families and friends reaction to them.  I just advise not to go mad spending on these, because they probably wont be kept or get lost as they get sent so far in advance of the wedding, so they don’t matter that much.

The Front of our “Save the Dates” DIY again, I got on with a bit of photoshopping for this one!
